Biography

Dr. Yury Vlasov is Chief Operations Officer at EMIS s.r.o., a European company specialising in geospatial intelligence. With a Ph.D. in Ecological Economics and more than 20 years of experience in geospatial technology, he works where satellite data meets practical use, turning complex imagery into actionable intelligence that helps address food security challenges around the world. In his current role, he oversees EMIS’s satellite-based monitoring solutions.

His academic background, earned at Moscow State University, centres on environmental monitoring and spatial analysis. He has published more than seven peer-reviewed papers on spatial modelling, ecological footprint measurement and sustainable development indicators. He also brings extensive experience in climate-related work, including LULUCF (Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry) and REDD projects under the Kyoto Protocol framework at COP15.

Alongside his scientific work, Yury has a strong record in user-centred agricultural technology. As a former User Experience Research Lead at major corporations, he focused on making complex data accessible to farmers and agricultural professionals, and helped develop market-leading agritech products built for real adoption and everyday use in the field. He holds a UX certification from the Nielsen Norman Group.

He also holds a Diplom in International Economics from Chelyabinsk State University and completed an internship in Rural Sociology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). He speaks German, English, Russian and Slovak, and has worked across Russia, Austria, Kazakhstan and Slovakia.
