Maurits Hagemans is a researcher at PXL Green & Tech, for the expertise center for construction and industry of PXL University of Applied Sciences & Arts (Hasselt, Belgium). He works on Future-Oriented Neighborhoods, a research initiative on regenerative neighborhood development that studies how sustainable building innovations scale from individual projects to neighborhood level in the rural Flemish context.
His work sits at the intersection of the built environment and digital technology: digital twins, data visualization, AI and immersive tools for neighborhood development. With the research team, he develops digital dialogue tools that help municipalities, developers and residents align on design and permitting decisions. He is particularly interested in how Local Digital Twins can support participatory planning and faster, more predictable permitting processes.
