Mayor, City of Tsukuba

Dr. Tatsuo Igarashi is the Mayor of Tsukuba City, a role he has held since 2016. With a Ph.D. in International Political Economy from the University of Tsukuba, an MSc in Public Policy from University College London, and a BSc in International Studies, Dr. Igarashi combines extensive academic expertise with a strong commitment to public service. His career includes serving as a Tsukuba City Councillor (2004–2008) and founding the NPO Tsukuba Agri-Challenge in 2010, which manages social farming initiatives for individuals with special needs. He also leads Igarashi Coaching Office, emphasising community and social development.
