Alessio Buscemi is an accomplished AI Engineer at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), where he has been managing the Technical Sandbox since 2024. This innovative environment evaluates AI systems for fairness, factual accuracy, robustness, explainability, and security. His expertise lies in ensuring rigorous testing and quality control of advanced AI technologies.

Before joining LIST, Alessio worked as a Software Engineer at Lifeware SA, contributing significantly to the development and maintenance of a SaaS platform for AG2R La Mondiale, a leading life insurance company. Over his tenure, he addressed complex algorithmic and business challenges in areas such as anti-money laundering (AML), internal funds, and death claims. He maintained close client collaboration to gather operational requirements, streamline processes, and design innovative solutions, all while adhering to principles of Test-Driven Development and Extreme Programming to deliver rapid prototypes.

Alessio also has a robust academic background from the University of Luxembourg, where he served as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Doctoral Researcher. Notably, he led SETICA, a project focused on assessing security threats to next-generation automotive networks and developing machine-learning-based intrusion detection systems in collaboration with Honda R&D. He also contributed to HORIZON 2020 initiatives, coordinating international cooperation on 5G mobility. His doctoral work specialised in CAN reverse engineering, developing pipelines for automated analysis of in-vehicle networks.

In addition, Alessio has contributed to European innovation as a Rapporteur for ETSI, working on strategies for IPv6-based 5G cross-border mobility, and as a Quality Assurance Committee Member for UNIVERSEH, where he helped define and assess KPIs for student and staff mobility. His career reflects a fusion of technical expertise, innovative thinking, and a dedication to advancing AI and technology in real-world applications.
