Deep Dives: Round 1

Each Deep Dive block has two rounds.

Round 1 (13:30–14:30): Every session runs twice, first from 13:30–14:00, then from 14:00–14:30.

Choose your first Deep Dive, then switch rooms for your second one:

Deep Dive #1 | Engaging Stakeholders in the CitiVerse | Arnaud Verstraete
Sala Panorâmica

This session distills emerging key success factors for building a CitiVerse—an interoperable, immersive Local Digital Twin (LDT). Drawing on four ongoing CitiVerse projects, we will surface common challenges (governance, data quality, privacy-by-design, procurement) and core building blocks (open standards, modular architectures, and use-case-driven integration). Rather than definitive claims, we will share early lessons, in-progress examples, and practical do’s and don’ts. We will key success factors in developing a CitiVerse in European cities. The session is designed for city leaders and technical teams seeking evidence-based guidance to replicate and localize CitiVerse capabilities. We will leave room for questions and answers.

Deep Dive #2 | Funding as the New Energy of Transformation | Olaf-Gerd Gemein
Sala Gardunha

Across Europe, cities face interconnected crises — energy volatility, water scarcity, digital fragmentation, social pressure — that no municipality can solve alone, even as unprecedented EU and national funds (Innovation Fund, CISAF, Modernisation Fund, CEF, InvestEU, Sondervermögen) and private capital are available for those prepared to act. Digital tools — data sharing, interoperability, AI, dataspaces — enable but do not replace the systemic collaboration needed at city and community level. This workshop tackles the gap between available funding and real readiness by bringing together cities and innovators to rethink financing as the true infrastructure of transformation: mapping the challenges of integrated digital–water–energy investments, applying a practical Funding Canvas to design actionable mission-driven concepts, and exploring real examples of blending public and private capital under CISAF, EIB and development instruments. Participants will leave with a shared understanding of Europe’s new funding landscape, a draft mission-oriented investment portfolio, and a 100-day plan to mobilise partnerships and prepare for upcoming calls. The message is clear: the era of small pilots is over — Europe’s next urban transformation demands large-scale, cross-sector, cross-border investment, treating funding as the energy that powers resilient communities.

Deep Dive #3 | Funding Opportunities for you | Gabriela Ruseva
Sala Estrela

Living-in.EU supports cities and regions in their digital transformation, notably through its Financial Working Group, where public authorities explore joint investment plans, synergies between EU, national, regional and local funds, reinforced investments and common procurement practices to scale existing digital solutions across Europe. This session will provide an overview of two key EU funding programmes for digitalisation — Horizon Europe and Digital Europe — and invite participants to reflect on whether these instruments meet their needs and what challenges they face in accessing them, including for non-EU countries. Participants will share success stories and recommendations that will feed into the next steps of the Financial Working Group, which remains open to any interested city, with a focus on the 2026–2027 draft work programmes.

Deep Dive #4 | AI in funded health projects | Léa Deswarte
Sala Cereja

This talk will explore how Artificial Intelligence can enhance data exploitation and quality, drawing on examples from funded healthcare projects. It will also discuss how these approaches — including data structuring, model validation, and interoperability — can be replicated and scaled within Smart Communities and Smart City Data Spaces. The presentation bridges lessons learned in digital health transformation (e.g. European Data Health Space) with opportunities for wider urban innovation.
